About Course

This online course aims to enhance the knowledge and expertise of clinicians and related professionals working with patients struggling with psychiatric illnesses. This online course will provide an overview of common psychiatric problems in the primary care office-based on current best practice guidelines. We will use an active learning approach through live interactive sessions and discussions. This program will complement basic training and short courses offered in Pakistan for general practitioners to bridge the gap in specialty care, especially in underserved areas of Pakistan.  

Mode of Delivery: 
4 hours of contact sessions through Zoom once a month with the ability to view the content later online for self-paced learning

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the course, the participants would be able to:

  1. Explain a fundamental approach to psychiatric history taking and screening psychiatric problems in a Primary Care setting. 
  2. Provide a review of approaches toward diagnosing the different psychiatric disorders. 
  3. Review approaches to evaluation and treatment for common presentations of psychiatric disorders in the primary care setting, including but not limited to schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorder, ADHD, dementia, and substance use disorders.  


Target Audience: 
Primary: Primary care and specialty physicians – General Practitioners, Pediatricians, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, and related mental health practitioners currently working with patients suffering from psychiatric illnesses.
