Course Overview

Course Description: The purpose of this online course is to enhance the knowledge and skills of clinicians (psychiatrists, psychiatry trainees and pediatricians) and related professionals working with children and adolescent psychiatric disorders struggling with psychiatric illnesses. The course will provide an overview of common psychiatric problems seen in the primary care office, based on current best practice guidelines. We will use an active learning approach through live interactive sessions and engaging participants in discussions. This program will complement basic training and short courses offered in Pakistan for general practitioners to bridge the gap of specialty care, especially in underserved areas of Pakistan. 

 

Target Audience: 

Primary: Primary care and specialty physicians (General Practitioners, Pediatricians, Psychiatrists), Psychologists and related mental health practitioners currently working with patients with psychiatric disorders.

 

Secondary: Medical Students


Learning Objectives:

  1. Develop a basic approach and ability to perform psychiatric assessment.
  2. Understand the application of screening tools for psychiatric problems in children and adolescents presenting in a Primary Care setting.
  3. Discuss evaluation and diagnostic approaches for various psychiatric disorders 
  4. Discuss treatment modalities for common psychiatric disorders in children and adolescents in the primary care setting.
